Effective Representation: 303-331-8601 • Se Habla Español

We represent non-citizens, including immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens, in the greater Denver metro area and statewide in Colorado. Michael Litman has the experience and thorough knowledge of immigration law to provide reliable deportation defense for those charged with removable offenses, such as domestic violence, theft, fraud, DUI, or drug possession or distribution.

If you or a family member was arrested, we can act immediately to address your status to prevent removal from the United States or to limit the impact on future ability to re-enter the U.S.

Deportation Defense and Immigration Counseling

After sitting down with you and explaining your rights, we can help you decide the best course of action for your current situation and future status in America.

  • Voluntary Departure — In certain cases, we may advise clients to agree to deportation, when staying might result in conviction and substantial prison time. Avoiding criminal proceedings improves your chances of re-entry at a later date. However, if removal would break up your family or if the underlying criminal charges are not serious, we will fight for legal relief so that you can stay and answer to the removable offense.
  • Cancellation of Removal — This process, also called "tenure," is available to legal residents with a valid visa or green card who have lived in the U.S. for 10 years or more. We will present evidence in your U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) removal hearing to show that you have been a productive and otherwise lawful citizen, and that deportation would hurt your family.
  • Hardship Case — If you or your family member requires medical treatment or special education services not readily available in your home country, we can petition the immigration judge to grant a removal waiver.
  • Amnesty for Undocumented Aliens — Under certain conditions, you may qualify for amnesty from removal. We will try to get you a work permit, and argue that the criminal charges do not warrant removal because of the unique circumstances of your case. We will attempt to buy time in the event that the U.S. government grants amnesty to a new wave of illegal immigrants.

If we succeed in your deportation defense and win your freedom to stay in the U.S., we can then focus on the criminal defense. Our lawyers are skilled in defense at trial or negotiating pleas that will not jeopardize your immigration status.
